BOTH LAWYERS ASK ROBOT FOR LAW, ROBOT INVENTS LAW FOR BOTH, JUDGE CANCELS COURT

What actually happened: Mississippi federal judge sanctions lawyers on both sides for AI-fabricated citations and cancels trial

IDIOCRACY LEVEL: 7/10

A federal judge in Mississippi sanctioned four lawyers, two on each side of a fee dispute with the city of Aberdeen, for filings with AI-invented case citations. Two were barred from the court for two years, and the trial was cancelled.

Courtroom desk, 2505: in a rare show of unity, the lawyers for both parties trusted the same kind of machine to supply the law, and it supplied law that does not exist. Neither side checked. The judge fined and removed the lawyers and cancelled the trial. One lawyer said she had not known the computer could make things up, which the court called incredible. Citizens reached for comment said that if the screen says it is a case, it is a case.
